Scents Of The Commonwealth: Double Down, Hot Brown, Mint Julep and Fried Chicken Candles!

By Kentucky For Kentucky |

Our mission is to engage and inform the world by promoting Kentucky people, places, and products. Back in November of 2013, we added "scents" to that mission statement when we dropped a small batch of our now famous 'Scents Of The Commonwealth' candles, a magnificent line of candles that smell like the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

We're excited to announce our 'Scents Of The Commonwealth' candles are back and better than ever! Once again we've collaborated with Kentucky's most prolific candle maker, Kathy Werking, to bring you four amazing Kentucky scented soy wax candles; a Double Down candle (New), a Hot Brown candle (New), a Mint Julep candle and our world famous Fried Chicken candle. All available this Friday, May 8th at 10am on our website.

Again, we've paired her project up with Rachael Sinclair, who designed hand-drawn labels that illustrate the sweetest sides of Kentucky. And who doesn't want to light up a room with the nostalgic scents of Hot Browns, Fried Chicken, Mint Juleps and KFC's Double Down sandwich? This creative collaboration sparked some heavenly aromas that will easily sweep you away to an Old Kentucky home away from home. We feel blessed, y'all.

*Only 25 candles of each scent will be available. Candles go on sale this Friday May 8th at 10:00am on our website. Made in Kentucky by Kathy Werking. Details below.

Hot Brown

First conceived in 1923 at the Brown Hotel in Louisville, Kentucky, the Hot Brown has inspired generations of messy sandwich enthusiasts the world over. Rather than slathering this candle in cheese whiz and calling it a day, Kathy opted to bring to life the herb infused turkey that is the real heart of the hot brown sandwich. Now you can have this comfort food staple in your old Kentucky kitchen, bathroom or bedside table. Get them while they're hot!

Double Down

So you want to feel the presence of a double down sandwich, but it's mysteriously vanished from the KFC menu again. What a dilemma. Well good news Kentuckians, we've turned this elusive unicorn into a candle you can cradle year round. Layered with pure Kentucky goodness, this Double Down candle starts off with a layer of Kathy's real Fried Chicken candle mixed with bacon pieces, easing into a bacon-scented center, finishing off with another layer of bonafide fried chicken. Let's leave a candle in the window to show our friend the way home. #NeverForget #BringItBack #WhoNeedsBreadWhenYouHaveChicken.

Fried Chicken

Let the fresh, fried sizzle of savory golden goodness drift into your hearts and homes with one of our most delectable creations to date. To craft the perfect xtra crispy aroma, Kathy picks up her cast iron skillet, adds a little seasoning, and gets to work. To make these candles, she fries chicken in all-natural soy wax and adds an infusion of family secrets. With only 25 of these available, you'll want to keep this mouth-watering recipe to yourself.

Mint Julep

As any Kentuckian knows, the actual Derby only happens in May. But now the sweet celebratory scent of mint juleps can fill your home all year
round – without your friends whispering about your indulgences. Crafted with all natural ingredients, these soy wax candles emit a subtle vanilla-bourbon and mint aroma that will warm you the way only a Kentucky mint julep could. Cheers! BTW- peep that fine ass label. That's Hunter S. Thompson holding a mint julep standing next to a horse. Yes please.
