Hoards of "The Walking Dead" fans are expected to descend on downtown Cynthiana this Saturday during the first-ever The Walking Dead Day. The normally quiet town—proud home of Post-It notes, hard hats, Joe B. Hall and zombies—is preparing for the influx with special The Walking Dead-themed merchandise, tasty snacks and treats, and a whole host of Dead-themed events.
"The Walking Dead" creator Robert Kirkman and original comic artist Tony Moore, both Cynthiana natives, will also be in attendance and make special appearances.
The day kick off at 9 a.m. with a sign dedication, but you'll really want to get there by 10 a.m. when free copies of a limited-edition version of the first issue of "The Walking Dead" comic, featuring a Cynthiana-themed cover, will be released at 201 S. Main Street. 10,000 copies are available with a limit of one per person. Shuttle tours, a costume contest, trivia contest, zombie jail experience, comic signings with Robert Kirkman and Tony Moore, and more events are planned throughout the day.
And we'll be there too, y'all! Look for the Kentucky for Kentucky flag flying high over our booth, and stop by for fresh KY for KY gear. We'll be set up downtown all day, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, with favorites like tie-died Y'ALL tees, Southern Socks and much more! You can also check out the kick-ass new The Walking Dead mural created by Odeith on the side of the Rohs Opera House, which is also the site of a Q&A with Robert Kirkman beginning at 4 p.m.
Free parking with free shuttles are also available, with several paid parking lots downtown. Visit The Walking Dead Day's event page for details. We'll see y'all there!
