Art for Rabbit Hash

By Kentucky for Kentucky |

Make plans to attend the Art for Rabbit Hash fundraiser this Sunday in Florence, y'all, and don't miss out on these commemorative prints.

When fire destroyed the iconic Rabbit Hash General Store in Boone County this past February, folks immediately rallied to lend their support. We wrote about the loss here and a GoFundMe page was created within hours to help.

The store was back up and running within a week of the fire in the nearby Rabbit Hash Barn, and efforts continue to rebuild and restore the historic Rabbit Hash General Store back to the state that so many generations of visitors fondly remember. As proprietor Terrie Markesbery says in an update to the GoFundMe page, "our intent is to rebuild and bring the magic back to Rabbit Hash, Kentucky."

A little of that magic will be in the air during an Art for Rabbit Hash fundraising event this Sunday at the Florentine Event Center in Florence. Artwork about and inspired by the Rabbit Hash General Store — including a limited-edition commemorative print commissioned by Kentucky for Kentucky and created by our friends at Durham Brand Co. — will be for sale during the event, along with several original paintings and works of art available during a silent auction.

All proceeds directly benefit the Rabbit Hash Historical Society for the restoration of the general store.

If you can't make the Art for Rabbit Hash event, we'll also be putting these handmade, wood-cut prints on sale at 10 a.m. Monday, May 2, in the online shop.

This is how Kentucky does it, y'all. Neighbor helping neighbor until we get it done right.

The Art for Rabbit Hash fundraiser begins at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 1, at the Florentine Event Center, 8605 Haines Dr., in Florence, Kentucky. Admission is $5 per person, which includes two drink tickets. Find more details at artforrabbithash.com.
