Liberty Hall, Frankfort – Haunted Mansion in Kentucky
Built in 1796 by Senator John Brown, Liberty Hall is one of Kentucky’s most famous haunted homes. Spirits said to linger here include Margaret Varick, the infamous “Gray Lady,” who died after traveling 800 miles to a funeral. Her ghost, always dressed in gray, still wanders the mansion, opening and closing doors. A Spanish opera singer who vanished in 1805 and a forlorn soldier in uniform are also among the ghostly figures in Frankfort, Kentucky. Kentucky State Penitentiary, Eddyville – Haunted Prison
Known as the “Castle on the Cumberland,” the Kentucky State Penitentiary opened in 1886 and remains the oldest prison in the state. Jesse James himself is said to have fired his gun at a ghost here, leaving bullet holes still visible today.
