Like Bigfoot, Artist David Kenton Kring is a mythical Kentucky creature. He doesn't just create dynamic tumblers, mugs, and flasks. His primary passion is crafting specialty, stylistic figurative work – particularly, life-size busts. As Kring explains, "my art offers an emotional charge through gestures, facial expression, and painting techniques. My surfaces are extremely worked; I rely on bends, folds, and crevasses to create depth and character." He has, indeed, created character in this rendering of Hunter S. Thompson, with a wild, wonderful, and masterful rendition of the original gonzo journalist. When we laid eyes on him we knew that we needed to share this HST with the world.
We're offering a piece available only here at Kentucky for Kentucky. As we all know, there's nothing more kick-ass than having Hunter S. Thompson hanging in your home! So here's your chance to snag a one-of-a-kind man and take him to the races on Derby. He's been longing to get Decadent and Depraved…at least one more time.
Hand-built with slabs by David Kenton Kring; stoneware fired on cone 5; tinted with underglaze and terra sigilatta using mixed media elements. The piece can be either stand alone or be mounted on a wall, and has custom-drilled holes in the back of the sculpture for that purpose. At 31 inches tall, 10 inches wide, 35 pounds, this is one hell of a piece.
